“Withering Flame

It is early morning, and I wake up thinking
This could be it; today will be my lucky day
So I get out of bed, hit the cold shower and dress up
There is no breakfast, there will be no breakfast
Hours later and I am in the office
Only to realize that it is not to be
………………………………………………………….
The pile on my desk beckons
No matter how much effort I put
The pile never seems to go away
It builds up faster than I can bring it down
Talk of a step forward and two backwards
But then, I must carry on with the work, I must
………………………………………………………………
The thought of my expectant wife
My son and daughter, how they smile at me
Once I am home, all they look for is the package on my hands
At times I have no package and they cannot fight back tears
The thought jolts me back to work
Again, my boss has been standing there for the last hour
………………………………………………………………
My cell phone rings, it is my wife
Says the landlord had come calling, says I need to see him
My desk phone rings, it is my boss
Says the report is long overdue, says I need to see him
My cell phone rings, I ignore it..”

Again, whose great idea was to write a poem? Oh, wait, this is your assignment, because your professor decided to do something “creative!” And now you are desperately trying to find a more or less descent poem sample to get at least faint understanding of what you are supposed to do. Yet the time is passing and the page in your text editor is still as blank as it was an hour ago. What if we say you have encountered a magical fairy that grants you a wish? You can go to sleep, and you will find a perfect poem sample in the morning waiting for you to print out. All you need to do is to press the “order” button…
