What are wizard hats? Why do many wizards in books and movies wear them?

Minerva McGonagall, Albus Dumbledore, Gandalf… what unites them all? Yes, they all are wizards, but they all also wear hats. Why do they do it? Do hats play such a great role for the image of wizards and what are they used for? When we talk about magic or wizards we imagine pointy hats. According to Waldman (2013) such hats were popular and were worn throughout history, but they started to be associated with magicians only since 1710s and 1720s when the publishers of cheap books for children in England began illustrating wizards and witches with robes and big wide-brimmed pointy hats.  Is it Just Britain that Recognizes the Greatness of Winston Churchill?

 The fact that his funeral was held the Cathedral of Saint Paul in Rome (Gould, Peter (2005-04-08), says that the greatness of the British Prime Minister acknowledged by the whole world . But and during his lifetime, Winston Churchill received many awards, titles and academic degrees as a British army officer, politician, writer and scientist.

During the service in army and stint as a prime minister W. Churchill received 37 awards and other honors: 20 of them from the United Kingdom, 10 during his military service in India, Cuba, Egypt, South Africa, was also awarded in countries such as: Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, Czech Republic, Estonia, Libya, Nepal, Norway and the USA (The Churchill Centre).

This essay presents an overview of the controversial attitude to tobacco products. Smoking kills more people than cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and all other illegal drugs combined, the nicotine inside is very addictive. People around a smoker suffer by secondhand smoking. Smoking gives many illnesses like breathing problems, bad heart conditions, oral cancer, high blood pressure. If we consider dealing with less harmful drugs, making cigarettes illegal seems logical. Richard Nixon was the 37th president of the United States of America, serving from 1969 to 1974 when he became the first president to resign the office. (Nixon, 2013) I believe Nixon was not a good president. His foreign policies became really unpopular among Americans, especially during the Vietnam War, in which about 300 American soldiers were dying per week. To make a painful total of 58,220 deaths (National Archives, 2016). Although the Cuba policy was accurate, The Watergate scandal is too big to be considered a good president. This is known as escapism and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines it as a “habitual diversion of the mind to purely imaginative activity or entertainment as an escape from reality or routine” (“Escapism”, 1997).

Escapism has become more popular throughout the years due to the introduction of social media. Previous forms of escapism have been books, video games, and movies; however, today escapism is more popular and most people don’t even realize that constantly scrolling through your newsfeed or timeline is a form of escapism. The Nobel Peace Prize is the most controversial prize on earth (Susannah Locke, 2015). The most recent and likely the most controversial Nobel Peace Prize was given to President Barack Obama in 2009. This was in the first term of his presidency, so there were many people who disagreed on its validity, as well as the timing, because of his involvement in bombing activities parallel to the campaigns for the creation of drones since his acceptance of this prestigious award.

According to international laws, when ships or planes traverse through straits that fall within the territorial reach of coastal States, they will be subjected to the rules of non-suspendable innocent passage or transit passage, depending on the states’ regime they stepped into. The innocent passage rule was established in the Corfu Channel case. (The Corfu Channel Case (the United Kingdom v. Albania), 1949). The International Court of Justice held that following international navigation rules, and foreign ships will enjoy an innocent passage through straits that are used for international navigation between one part of the high seas and another or the territorial waters of a coastal State during peacetime. The so-called rule of non-suspendable innocent passage was later coded in 1958 by the Geneva Convention on the Territorial Sea and Contiguous Zone. (more…)
