Religion Essay: the Bible and Atheists

Do you agree with the statement that people who have never read Bible can’t proclaim themselves as atheists and should read it first?

Every person should take the opportunity to read the Bible for themselves, whether atheist, agnostic, or adherent of any religion. It is too important to ignore. Many common sayings come from the Bible, and some that attributed to the Bible do not come from it. The Bible is God’s chosen method of revealing Himself to this fallen world. Jesus came to reveal God’s character, also. Who Jesus was on earth is who God is. Atheists see a discrepancy between the God of the Old Testament and Jesus in the New. They don’t realize that They are One and the same.

An atheist should read the Bible with an open mind, ready to allow God to reveal Himself to the individual for who He really is, not who the person has imagined Him to be. A person usually considers himself an atheist because he has developed a terribly skewed, flawed picture of God. The “god” of atheists really doesn’t exist, because God’s true character has been slandered, making Him out to be Someone He isn’t.

“You might wonder why a non-believer would bother reading a book he doesn’t agree with, but even if I don’t believe it, other people do and their beliefs shape society.” https://whistlinginthewind.org/2015/04/14/an-atheist-reads-the-bible/

Understanding other people and other cultures makes a person more accepting and tolerant of others.

Herb Silverman says, “For better or worse, the Bible and the many religions it spawned have deeply influenced our culture and the world. For that reason alone, the Bible is worth reading.” http://www.faithstreet.com/onfaith/2013/01/26/why-this-atheist-likes-the-bible/11741

Reading the Bible just may change your perspective of God. Ask God to reveal Himself to you as you read. Give it a try.
